"One innovative startup that has decided to go for the Crowdcube approach rather than the usual method of raising money from a VC is gamesGRABR, a games company that describes itself, somewhat grandiloquently, as ‘ the Pinterest for games’.
The company’s CEO Tony Pearce wants to raise £150,000 by using the site for after taking a different direction to the one he has usually employed., over the past decade he has raised £15 millon in VC funding.“I have nothing against the VC model, but this time I wanted to try something different. Using Crowdcube, for as little as £10 our customers (and non-customers) can buy shares in the company.“Imagine if you could have done this when Facebook, Pinterest or Google when they started. What better way to thank our community than by actually offering them the chance of owning shares in the company,” says Pearce."
